Watchmen (2009) Review

I didn't watch It before cause I knew the original comic book was something else, and oh boy it was. It was one of the great pieces of literature that I have come across.

And I sat down to watch the movie, and it wasn't available anywhere, So I rented a movie for the first time in my life cause I just finished reading the Graphic novel and didn't want to see it from some torrent site in 720p quality.

Watchmen Paperback – Illustrated

So I paid 75Rs on prime video. And I don't know. I didn't get that fear or horror that I got when I read the comic book and how real I felt with all those characters and the brutality of the world that was on those pages. Runtime must have do something with it, felt a like a story that so powerful and telling as this needed more time and space, that it needed to take a breath.

There was so much to untangle in the story even the 163-minute runtime of the movie made it look airtight. And there was only a glimpse of my favorite bit from the novel (the newspaper guy and the comic book kid). But I get it, although it wasn't that profound in terms of comparing with its source material. It still does a good job in visually adapting some of those eyegasmic panels from the comic (can't believe this was released in 2009).

And they pretty much perfected Dr Manhatten and Rorschach. Dr Manhatten in the movie to me is one of the best adaptations a movie did to a comic book character. ( That origin story, you kiddin me)

The major issue for me was that I needed more and I heard there is a three-and-a-half-hour-long director's cut and TV show from HBO, gotta watch that next.

Overall it's a good time and I like Snyder, but I would encourage you to read the comic before you watch it.
